House Poetry Competition 2018

HOuse Poetry

On Wednesday 7th March 2018, we held the final of our annual House Poetry Competition. As always, we were pleased to welcome our Chairman of Governors, Mr Pye, as Head Judge! The children performed their poems in front of the judging panel and the children in classes 6 to 11. All of the poems, without exception, were brilliant and therefore the judges had the difficult job of choosing winners for the Pre-Prep Department, Junior Prep, Senior Prep and the Wild Card round! Congratulations to everyone who took part!

Town Planner Visit to Class 6

presenting our ideas

On Wednesday 31st January 2018, Mrs Phillips (a parent at the school) visited class 6 to talk about town planning as part of our ‘Buildings’ topic. We started by discussing all the different people who help to design a new
town and what we need to use from the land around it. We thought about the different types of buildings that are needed and where they need to be placed within the town.

The children were then divided into groups and they planned their own towns. We had some great ideas, such as making sure that there were enough houses, how many football stadiums to have and where would the roundabouts should go! Mrs
Phillips helped the children with their decisions.

Finally, we presented the towns we had designed to the other groups.

We would like to thank Mrs Phillips for giving up her time to visit class 6.

Class 5 visit from The Hearing Dogs

dog

On Tuesday 23rd January, The Hearing Dogs Charity visited the children in Class 5. Terry and his dog Dotty showed them the many clever things that Dotty can do; she was able to do tricks by simply following Terry’s hand movements, e.g. sit, lie down and stand on 2 legs. Terry also showed us how Dotty tells him when the telephone rings or when the fire alarm sounds. Towards the end of their visit Terry taught the children some sign language; he showed us how to say please, thank you and hello.
